The vibrant and creative seaside city of Brighton & Hove had long been screaming for new and fresh hotels, and the last five years have certainly delivered. Brighton (and Hove!) is now home to a variety of hotels, from boutique to family-friendly, chains to classic higher-end stays. As I sometimes have guests staying over, I have stayed over in a fair few, and for the other recommendations they have come from friends. One recommendation is to book early, Brighton is always throwing a festival, party or some type of event so you’ll find prices will rise suddenly and availability will be difficult.
Which area is best for you in Brighton?
Brighton is, as a whole, a very small and walkable city, but it does have distinct neighbourhoods so where you stay is a matter of preference. Most of Brighton’s hotels and guesthouses are located in central Brighton (the area where you’ll find the Royal Pavillion, the Lanes and Brighton Pier), and then to the East (and immediately after the pier) is Kemp Town, and to the west is Hove (after the i360).
Central Brighton will naturally be noisier and busier, but it’s perfect if you’re planning on going out and being in the middle of it all. Kemp Town is full of personality with independent bookshops and cafés, some great restaurants and a quieter end of the beach. It’s also home to our favourite hang Yellowave (beach volleyball), has a few mini golf places and is close to the marina if you’re planning on visiting (I wouldn’t bother). It can be rough around the edges in some streets, but that’s part of the charm. Hove has wide avenues and regency squares, lots of great cafés and restaurants and a lovely seafront with the colourful beach huts on Hove Lawns, the newly opened Babble café with stunning views and Rockwater. A quieter place to stay, but with plenty of life.
Best boutique & romantic hotels
Brighton is a fantastic romantic getaway, with several cosy (and excellent) restaurants, seaside wanders, beach saunas and ice baths – and the South Downs within a short distance if you fancy cosy countryside air. And despite central Brighton being a bustling and busy place, there are plenty of quiet pockets around town and in Hove where you can find little havens of peace. I’ve picked my favourite boutique and quiet hotels for those searching for a bit of down-time with their significant other.

Harbour Hotel & Spa
Boutique Spa Seafront Hotel
A true gem bang on the seafront in the centre of Brighton, Harbour Hotel is hands down my favourite place to stay. Each room is beautifully decorated, with a calm coastal design overlooking Brighton beach – a small haven. Fancy some down-time? Head down to its underground spa with its unique cavernous hot tubs, swimming pool, gym and of course treatment rooms – a must!

Drakes Hotel
Smart boutique with extraordinary restaurant
The Drake Hotel is a charming boutique hotel just a short stroll from Brighton Pier, making it ideal for couples who want easy access to the beach and town centre. The rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully designed with a touch of vintage style, offering a cosy atmosphere without feeling cramped. There’s a bar and restaurant onsite that is regarded as one Brighton’s best – perfect for a relaxed evening without venturing out.

124 Brighton Guesthouse
Luxury Seafront Boutique
One of Brighton’s most recent openings, I haven’t been to 124 Brighton myself but heard nothing but amazing feedback, though be warned it sits on the pricier side. I have been for dinner at its restaurant Pearly Cow , and had a cocktail at the hotel’s bar which was delightful. More on that later…
The hotel sits bang on Brighton’s seafront (not too far from Harbour hotel) perfect to explore the city, or kicking-back on the beach with a good book. The rooms are cosy, but thoughtfully designed, no brash colours or designs here, 124 Brighton is a peaceful seaside escape. The hotel does offer a few suites if your budget stretches a tad, perfect for an anniversary weekend or a birthday celebration!

Artist Residence
Creative & Full of Character
Artist Residence is a boutique hotel with a creative, artsy feel. Each room is different, decorated with original artwork and unique touches that give it personality. It’s set a little away from the busiest parts of Brighton, making it a good option if you want a quieter base but still within easy reach of town by a short taxi or bus ride.
The hotel offers a cosy bar and a breakfast area with a laid-back vibe. There’s a small garden where you can sit with a coffee or drink when the weather’s good. If you’re into boutique hotels with character rather than big chains, this place stands out without feeling pretentious or over the top.

Most family-friendly hotels in Brighton
Brighton has so much to offer families looking for a fun and exciting seaside escape, with something for everyone. It can, however, be tricky to find family-friendly hotels in Brighton where rooms tend to be on the smaller side and not catering for little ones. I’ve selected a few options that should help you planning your Brighton family holiday – and if you’re looking for things to do, make sure to check out a few of my posts.

The Grand
Classic Family Stay
The Grand is a classic seafront hotel with plenty of space and facilities suited to families. It has large rooms and suites that can easily accommodate two adults and three children, making it a practical choice. The hotel offers a swimming pool and a fitness centre, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy on-site.
There’s a good mix of dining options, from casual cafés to more formal restaurants, and the location means you’re just steps away from the beach and the famous Brighton Pier. The hotel staff are used to families and often help with recommendations for nearby kid-friendly activities and attractions.

Sealanes 2
3 bed apartment for large families
Finding accommodation for large families can be a struggle, and if you’d rather not fork out for two bedrooms, or head the Airbnb route, this is a great solution. This spacious 3 bedroom apartment sleeps up to 8, is centrally located and has a kitchen, etc making you feel right at home.

The Charm Hotel
Kemptown small hotel with family room
The Charm is a quieter choice just outside the main hustle of Brighton but still within easy reach of the beach and town centre. Rooms come in various sizes, with some able to fit two adults and three children comfortably. It’s a no-frills option, focusing on clean, comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price.
There’s a small garden area, which is a bonus for families wanting a little outdoor space to stretch out. The staff here are friendly and welcoming, and the hotel has a relaxed, informal feel that suits families looking for a simple base.

Additional family-friendly options
Leonardo Royal Brighton Waterfront
Less charming than my other recommendations, but the Leonardo Royal offers large rooms and suites designed with families in mind, including options with sofa beds and extra space. Located right on the seafront, it has easy access to the beach and many family attractions. The hotel also features a café, free Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour front desk. Book here
Snooze
Another solid choice for families, this is a really fun place to stay, and has a family room with a double bed and bunk beds. It’s full of personality, and creative kids will love sleeping here (not for those easily stimulated!). Located in Kemp Town, you’re within easy reach of the town centre, the Zipline and our favourite haunt – Yellowave. Book here
Best for a budget weekend
Brighton is also a great place to visit on a tight budget. The city has a wealth of free activities and sightseeing, and with plenty of cheap eats too (if you know where to find them, I may need to do a post about this!), making your weekend in Brighton a budget one is very much possible. To help you, here are a few options for budget-friendly hotels.
The Stirling Arms
Charming rooms in Hove
One of Hove’s much-loved pubs, the Stirling isn’t just one of the city’s best roasts, it also has rooms above it in a quiet (at night) but bustling part of Hove. Minute’s away from a busy shopping street, ‘Big Tescos’ and the seafront, this is a great choice for those looking for a comfortable and charming stay.

Hotel Pelirocco
Fun, funky and surprisingly budget
I won’t just send you to a horrible and soulless hotel just to save a few pennies. Especially when you have gems like Hotel Pelirocco around, offering really fun and artsy rooms, a great bar and an even better location. Book early for great rates.
