Way back when #tbt’s weren’t a thing and my 3 year old son was still a bump, we decided to go on a babymoon. We’re not married, so thought we ought to have a proper romantic holiday before the baby arrived and do all those things people tell you to do when you’re pregnant: enjoy the peace and quiet, read some books, have lots of lay-ins and be able to eat whatever you like. Now we all know that it’s impossible to sleep when you’re pregnant, if you eat a lot then you get heartburn, etc, etc but we had to give it a try!
As I was going to be 7 months pregnant for the holiday, we spent quite a while planning our babymoon, looking through dreamy catalogs and travel sites, and ended up electing Antigua as our destination, making the newly opened Sugar Ridge resort our home away from home for this very special holiday.
Sitting on the west coast of the island, the Sugar Ridge Resort was an absolute dream – nested in a lush green mountain and overlooking the sea, the resort is beautifully designed, all white and wooden with modern details and impeccable taste. Sugar Ridge has two fabulous pools and an Aveda spa, which made my babymoon that much more special.
We’re not usually big resort people, especially before having C, but Sugar Ridge felt reassuringly private and exclusive, each room and its balcony looking out to the beautiful sea without having to worry about prying neighbours.[yo-widget href=”https://www.yonderbound.com/stories/one-tiny-leap/sugar-ridge-antigua-review/4518/hotels/ACT4353″]
One of the main reasons this resort falls in a more affordable bracket, is because it doesn’t actually sit on the seafront. This however, is what made it so special to us, as they have several trips a day on a 4×4 taking guests you to a different beach every day (or the same if you fall in love with a particular one!) allowing you to discover more of the island and discover havens like the one below…
For the majority of the time, we had the beaches to ourselves to relish the peaceful settings, the views and the silence.
The hotel has two restaurants on-site, both of which are excellent. Carmichael is actually one of the island’s most renowned restaurants, offering a fine-dining experience and breathtaking views over to the sea. This is also where you’ll find the infinity pool, and if you’re lucky like we were, you’ll be able to enjoy the view and the pool with no one else around…
How to get there: We flew to St John’s from London with Virgin Atlantic and booked our holiday with Best at Travel, which is where we could find the best prices.
