The heart of Lisbon, the birthplace of Fado music and home to the city’s cathedral and castle, Alfama is a neighbourhood of labyrinthian streets that has a wonderful way of enveloping you into its arms, making it so easy to explore as you slowly get lost in its windy streets and alleys.
How to get to Alfama: The best way to get here is by boarding the famous tram 28 that runs from Prazeres/Estrela up until Alfama/Graca. (beware of pickpockets and never take your eyes off your belongings/cash). If you’re staying in Chiado/Baixa you can walk up the hill towards Sé (cathedral) or Castelo S Jorge, or catch a taxi (ask for Castelo and make your way down).
